FAQs
Here are quick answers about our freestanding ER and how it connects to our main campus emergency room.
What is a freestanding emergency room?
A freestanding emergency room is a licensed department of a hospital that provides 24/7 emergency care in a separate location. It can treat the same conditions as a hospital-based emergency room and offers on-site imaging and lab services.
How is a freestanding emergency room different from urgent care?
Urgent care is for minor illnesses and injuries that need prompt attention but are not emergencies. A freestanding emergency room is equipped to treat serious or life-threatening conditions.
Is the care the same as at the hospital emergency room?
Yes. North Idaho Falls ER is Joint Commission-accredited department of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, and you can expect the same level of emergency care and healthcare providers.
Are wait times shorter at a freestanding emergency room?
The average wait time to see a provider at an FSER is lower than the average wait time at most area hospital-based ERs, according to publicly reported data. However, wait times can vary based on how sick or injured you are and how busy the freestanding emergency room is when you arrive.
What types of insurance are accepted, and what if I need to be transferred for additional care?
Because North Idaho Falls ER is a department of Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC), we accept the same insurance plans. If you need admission to EIRMC for a higher level of care, our team will coordinate your transfer. You will not pay transport costs or a second facility fee.
